O-tsukimi（the moon viewing） refers to the “Juugo-ya ～15th night～” on August 15th of the lunar calendar. It’s an autumn event where summer is over and it gets cooler.
The custom of viewing the moon was originally transmitted from China, and upper class people held a moon feast and watched the moon. Later, in connection with the harvest festival of agricultural products, people began to appreciate the 15 nights as a symbol of abundant fruitｓ, offer offerings, and offer gratitude and prayers.
In modern Japan, customs are simplified and it is common to decorate pampas grass(Susuki) and eat dumpling balls(Dango).
