In class we\u2019ve learned that saying \u201cgokurosamadeshita\u201d to your superiors or elders is rude, while it\u2019s okay to use \u201cotsukaresamadeshita\u201d also with your boss or seniors. I understand why it becomes natural for students to use \u201cotsukaresama\u201d with teachers as well&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p>\u00a0 But in reality, \u201cotsukaresama deshita\u201d is a very common greeting mainly used between colleagues that are working together in the same company. The type of relationship student\/teacher is not the same as one of two coworkers. <br \/>It\u2019s likely that your teacher felt a little bit uncomfortable because of that.<\/p>\r\n<p>\u00a0 So, if you want to say something different than \u201csayonara\u201d, a simple \u201carigato gozaimashita\u201d would do perfectly!
