[\u308f\u304b\u3089\u306a\u3044]\u201d often. So, I guessed they didn\u2019t understand what I was saying, and I kept giving difficult and long-winded explanations. As it turns out, it wasn\u2019t that they didn\u2019t understand, but they wanted to say \u201cI don\u2019t know yet. [\u307e\u3060\u77e5\u3089\u306a\u3044]\u201d, or \u201cI haven\u2019t decided yet. [\u307e\u3060\u6c7a\u3081\u3066\u3044\u306a\u3044]\u201d.<\/p>\r\n<p><br \/>\u00a0In Japanese, \u201cI don\u2019t understand. [\u308f\u304b\u3089\u306a\u3044]\u201d is another way to say \u201cI don\u2019t know yet. [\u307e\u3060\u77e5\u3089\u306a\u3044]\u201d. In English, \u201cI don\u2019t understand. [\u308f\u304b\u3089\u306a\u3044]\u201d never means \u201cI don\u2019t know yet. [\u307e\u3060\u77e5\u3089\u306a\u3044]\u201d. When you don\u2019t know, or you haven\u2019t decided yet, it\u2019s best to convey that clearly. As I learned from my friend, the same rule doesn\u2019t seem to exist in Japanese.<\/p>\r\n<p><br \/>\u00a0My friend frequently tells me \u201cYour explanations are long and hard to understand!\u201d, and that makes me feel very embarrassed. However, I can\u2019t help but keep making the same mistake.
